A book for children

Literacy Foundation launches the 10th edition of Reading as a gift MD. Since its inception, the project has helped provide more than 165 000 new books to as many children (0-12 years) with the aim of preventing school dropout and illiteracy. Yet, 10 years later, the Foundation still receives thousands of requests each year of new books for children from the poorest in each region of Quebec. It is this that pushes the Foundation to increase awareness among the general public that books and reading stories do not occupy a privileged place in the majority of families targeted by the project. It is recognized that early contact with the written language acts as a primary factor in academic success and attendance to reading. The involvement of the family at this stage is therefore crucial in the report what the child with the book throughout his life.
